Democratic inclusion of individuals with intellectual disabilities remains an important issue also in countries where these individuals are allowed to vote. Assessments of electoral participation suggest that turnout is still significantly lower within this group than among the general population as well as among individuals with other disability profiles. This study captures reflected attitudes and experiences of constraining factors for electoral participation as experienced by individuals with intellectual disabilities who took part in a 21-h preparatory study-circle series before the general elections in Sweden 2022. These constraining factors are mapped using a facilitated survey among participants and reports from the facilitators leading it. The most commonly reported difficulties were those associated with making the electoral decision. Two kinds of difficulties, difficulties in getting to a polling station and a perceived lack of reason for voting, were significantly more common among non-voters, suggesting that such difficulties may prevent individuals from voting.
